  1. Les Jamelles Merlot 2010 Vin de Pays   d'Oc, +245324 LCBO, $12.95: 
making a new appearance on the General List after years of consignment,
this Merlot exhibits typicity of the region, near Nimes. 10  1 year-
old vines and acidic soil lend it some crispness pushing it over to the
food wine category. 13.5% ABV, cooked black fruit, with a longer finish
than anticipated. Twist top for easier service.

2. Sauvion Carte D'Or Muscadet Sevre et   Maine Sue Lie 2010 Loire, 
+143016 LCBO, $12.95: from the melon de Bourgogne grape, a fairly high
acid food wine, great with shellfish (especially at this price). Aged
on lees for added complexity, 4 to 8 months. 12% BV. A really heavy
bottle and attractive label makes the wine seem more posh than the
price.

3. Calvet Reserve Merlot-Cabernet 2010   Bordeaux, +44032 LCBO, $14.45 
(but only $10.98 or so in Alberta): at 14% ABV the wine qualifies as
Bordeaux Superiore. Here the cuvee is 60% merlot and 40% cab sauvignon.
Fruity in the North American appeal style, both red and black fruit
alternate in aromas. Needs time to open up, do a double decant.

$18.95 Vintages: quite a powerful wine, a Cuvee winner, lots of forest
floor (mushrooms, earth) to complement the red fruit. 13% ABV.
