So – on June 22, I was welcome to partake in the media preview launch of Burger's Priest salute to the Canada 150 celebration on July 1 (they had not done this for two years).
On Canada Day, Burger's Priest will celebrate Canada 150 by offering a Confederation Burger dedicated to the local foods of Canada: all 15 outlets (13 in the GTA, 2 in Edmonton) starting at noon will offer the new burger until supplies run out. It's a huge creation comprised of their beef burger from locally sourced animals, a full lobster tail from Nova Scotia, maple syrup from Quebec, and bacon ham from Ontario. Talk about surf and turf! And it sells as a loss-leader for $18.67...Fries, drinks, shakes, dessert will be extra. To top it off, there's a draw for a free combo Burger's Priest once a week for a year. There are 150 draws, and they are not site-specific, so it is possible that any one location could end up with all 150 prizes.
I found the burger very appetizing, if a bit overwhelming in volume: you may need a doggy bag. The flavours of maple/salty bacon/lobster tail/beef really do work well together. But use both hands, and I found it best to invert the burger to better capture the juices and flavours. A high IBU Pilsner would be my suggested accompaniment, if available.
