The Date and Time:  Tuesday April 16, 2019  Noon to 3PM
The Event: A vertical tasting of Carpineto Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva plus three other wines, with owner Antonio M. Zaccheo Jr.
  The Venue: EVOO, Avenue Road
  The Target Audience: wine writers
The Availability/Catalogue: all wines are available, mostly by private order.
The Quote/Background: Antonio is the son of Carpineto's co-founder,and now runs the company which is dedicated to Carpineto Vino Nobile di Montepulciano plus other Tuscan wines. His five estates plus contracts furnish enough wine for about 30 different labels, including Chianti Classico and Brunello ranges. The blend in the Nobile series is almost always 90% sangiovese and 10% canaiolo, but the range could be 70 – 30. Wines are aged for 1 to 2 years in oak. Univins and Spirits is the agent in Ontario; there are currently six Carpineto wines listed with the LCBO. Antonio led us through the 8 Nobile vertical wines and then three others (Chianti Classico, Brunello).
The Wines: Many were restrained but eventually became long on the palate ending a bit tight on the finish. Depth and quality varied by vintage.

The Food: For starters, we had a generous sampling of Carpineto's olive oil (Oliveto Sillano, made from 4 olive varieties in the upper Arno orchards) with crusts of breads. I began the meal with meatballs in ragu and pecorino crostini (others had chickpea soup or arugula salad), followed by the venison tenderloin. Pappardelle with lamb or steak was also available.
The Downside: we started half-hour late.
The Upside: a chance to converse with Antonio and to taste a rare vertical of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano,
